Sport in Silesia
Silesia bets on sport
In small towns, small clubs – this is where sports careers often begin of those who then proudly, with an eagle on their chests, stand on the podium of the Olympic Games and World Championships.
With faith in the next generation of young athletes, the Silesian Province invests in the development of sport in its region, becoming a leader in its financing.
From the modernisation of popular arenas such as the Silesian Stadium, through investments in smaller and larger sports facilities, to the initiation of regional programs supporting sports clubs – this is how Silesia takes care of the future generations of athletes.
The Silesian Province thus boasts many Polish football championship titles, medals of national championships won by athletes in athletics, basketball, hockey, volleyball, handball, skiing, biathlon, fencing, archery and sports acrobatics. In each of these disciplines, Silesia had and has outstanding representatives, whom it shows off on the sports arenas worldwide.
In the region there is no shortage of places to practice sports for amateurs, either. The Silesian Province offers sailing on Żywiecki Lake, kayaking on the River Ruda, skiing on Góra Żar in winter, as well as windsurfing, diving and climbing - among others.
